Shillong June 25: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association held an emergent GBM on 25.6.14 to decide on a plan of action following NEHU Executive Council’s refusal to consider the Review Committee’s report on teachers’ promotion that had corrected anomalies and recommended the rightful and legitimate date of eligibility of many teachers.
An arbitrary change of teachers’ date of promotion has resulted in loss of many years of service for teachers of NEHU. But in the last Executive Council meeting held on 17.6.14 the E.C. turned down the recommendations of Review Committee as well as the recommendations of UGC for correcting teachers’ date of promotion.
In view of this, the NEHUTA decided to launch democratic agitation from 26th June, beginning, from the 26th, the teachers to wear black badge as a sign of protest; and on the following day go to the administration to urge upon the Executive Council to immediately implement the Review Committee’s recommendations.
This is a situation that has accrued from the NEHUTA’s issue on the matter with the University authority which has built up for almost two years.(SP News)
