Shillong, February 04: Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) condemns the sexist and unprincipled statements of the Meghalaya Mahila Congress – the womens wing of the ruling congress party in support of the arrogant stance of HDR Lyngdoh who refuses to step down as home minister. Marvelene Inn, a guest house, owned and run by Mr. Lyngdoh’s immediate family has been a habitual ‘den of vice’ in the recent case of traffficking of a 14 year old girl.
At least 4 people who have been arrested till date have used this guest house to sexually abuse this minor. In spite of this serious culpable offence by the owners and management of this guest house, the management and owners are treated with Kidgloves just because they are HDR’s near and dear ones.
TUR along with citizens have been demanding HDRs resignation to ensure that everyone from top to bottom who are involved in the trafficking ring are properly investigated and when guilty are quickly prosecuted in a timebound manner as prescribed by law.
Although the proverb goes that ‘not only Caeser but Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion’, the Government and Congress party in Meghalaya is more interested in protecting its sinful privileges rather than the ethical norms which should govern its practices.
The Statement by its women’s wing, points to a total lack of principles and commitment to norms of accountability by those in power and points to the fact that some women such as these are more interested in furthering their narrow selfish interests rather than standing up for the larger cause of gender justice and equality.
On the one hand when it came to illegal acts by the then Governor Mr. Shanmuganthan, the Congress Party was trying to score political points against the BJP for its defence of the RSS pracharak governor.
But when it comes to their own congress minister Mr HDR, the same party is out in full force to defend the man whose immediate family runs a den of vice. The defence of HDR Lyngdoh continuing as home minister shows the moral bankruptcy of the governing party and its entire corrupt structure. TUR along with citizens of Meghalaya would be intensifying its campaign for the removal of HDR Lyngdoh as the Home Minister. Said in the press statement issued to the media.
