Under trial prisoner escapes from a government hospital,7 constables suspended

Tura, June 23: An under trial United Achik Liberation Army (UALA)
cadre today escaped from a government hospital in Tura.
The cadre identified as Rex Miller R. Sangma was arrested on June 18
from Kharkutta in North Garo Hills, based on inputs given by another
cadre Grikseng Sangma, who was arrested from his house in Araimile
locality here.
Rex Miller and Grikseng were arrested on June 18 and were on five days
police remand.
Rex Miller was undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Tura since June 20.
Addition SP of West Garo Hills, Bruno A Sangma said, “We have
suspended seven constables, who were on duty at the hospital for
negligence of duty. Rex Miller was an arm supplier for UALA. He was on
a five day police remand”.
Police is on a hunt to nap Rex Miller.
“Rex Miller had complained of loose motion, so he was taken to the
hospital. We have asked hospital to submit report, as to why he was
kept so long. We are awaiting for the report”, said Sangma.
Quoting hospital authorities, the additional SP said, “The cadre was
found running, when a sister managed to see him, she informed the
constable at the hospital. However, they could not manage to catch
him”.
The incident took place around 4 am today.
He added, “Departmental enquiry will be initiated against the
constables, who were on duty today”.
The cadre was not handcuffed, which is a not permitted as per latest
Supreme Court ruling on under trial prisoner, who are on medication at
the hospital.(SP News)
