With the rest of the Country Meghalaya  observed the 5th International Day of Yoga

Shillong, June 21: Along with the rest of the country Meghalaya also today observed The 5th International Day of Yoga under the theme: ‘Yoga for Heart’was observed by the Directorate of AYUSH and Government of Meghalaya.

The 5th International Day of Yoga under the theme: ‘Yoga for Heart’was observed by the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of Meghalaya today at the premises of Civil Hospital, Shillong. Health & Family Welfare Minister, Shri A. L. Hek graced the programme as Chief Guest.

In his short speech, Shri A. L. Hek informed the gathering about the various health benefits and fitness associated with the regular practice of yoga. He also suggested on the need to practice yoga in order to improve the overall physical and mental health.

Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health & Family Welfare Department and Director of AYUSH, Shri Pravin Bakshi was also present on the occasion.

The North-Eastern Hill University celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2019 at the Multi-use Convention Hall, from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

Prof. S.K. Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, NEHU was the chief guest while Shri Umesh Changotia, Patanjali Yoga Kendra, Shillong was the guest of honour. Prof. G. Singaiah, Pro- Vice-Chancellor, NEHU Tura campus and Dr. J. N. Nayak, Registrar NEHU were also present. Prof. Anil. D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) was one of the dignitaries who attended the program and also addressed the participants of the programme.

A group of Yoga teachers from the Art of Living, Shillong Kendra led by Ms. Mala Sinha were also present.The programme started with the felicitation of the dignitaries followed by the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, guest of honour and other dignitaries.

Prof. M. P. Pandey, Chairman of University Level Yoga Committee gave the welcome address while the guest of honour spoke on the benefits of Yoga. Prof. Srivastava spoke on the importance of Yoga to improve human health and described the ways and means by which one can incorporate Yoga in one’s day-to-day life. Prof. Rout, Department of Law, NEHU demonstrated Shirshashan.

The members of Art of Living, Shillong Kendra conducted the Yoga protocol session as per Yoga Protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India followed by reading of the pledge. About 200 participants including students, teaching & non-teaching staff, their family members as well as a few guests from the United Kingdom participated in the programme.

A poster exhibition detailing the different Asanas, Pranayams as well as posters on protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India were also exhibited at the venue. T-shirts printed with the logo of International Yoga Day and fruits were distributed to all the participants. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Bela Keshan, a member of the University level Yoga Committee followed by the rendition of the National Anthem.
