Ampati, January 13: Together with the rest of the country, South West Garo Hills also observed Road Safety Week, 2017 across the district with various activities spread throughout the week organized by the office of the District Transport Officer, Ampati in collaboration with the District Police and other departments beginning from January 9, last.

It may be mentioned that Road Safety Week is being observed every year by the Government of India in the month of January throughout the country with a view to minimize the occurrence of road accidents and the resultant loss of lives thereof by creating awareness on road safety to all road users.

On day one of week-long observation, pamphlets and banners containing road safety measures and safe motoring tips were distributed to the public; on day two, mobile announcement along the public thoroughfares and market places across the district was done to create public awareness on road safety; on day three, joint checking of vehicles was carried out with the District Police at Ampati Police Station, while on day four, free eye check-up of drivers was conducted by the Medical Officers at Ampati Police Station.

On Friday, a Mobile Court was put up at Mahendraganj where cases relating to motor vehicles and road accidents were taken up while at the same time the general public was given awareness on road safety measures. On Saturday also joint checking of vehicles would be undertaken by the office of the DTO along with the District Police and pamphlets on Road Safety and Protection of Good Samaritans would be distributed to the general public at Ampati Bazar.
