Workshop on Basic Statistics for Local Level Development Survey held

Shillong, July 11: A One day Review Workshop on Basic Statistics for Local Level Development (Rural) Survey organised by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Shillong, concluded on Friday at Tura Circuit House. The survey is expected to be enormously informative focusing on rural development and improvement needs on a wide range of rural infrastructure including crucial aspects of statistics.

Inaugurating the workshop, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi commended the Director of Economics and Statistics, Arnel Marbaniang and extended his heartfelt congratulation for organizing the workshop which is based on pinpoint and Accurate Survey where various aspects of rural development are included. Bakshi while addressing the gathering noted that the survey would go a long way to help service delivery and reach out to the people. Commenting that the methodology was scientific Bakshi stated that it could be made use of to fill the gaps of rural Development and added that the lack of availability of credible statistics was hampering development.

Emphasizing on the importance of precise BPL household survey Bakshi stated that even though the BPL percentages of Betasing and Dalu C and RD Block have been worked out by the survey the District Administration still had to work out the same. Bakshi later stated that after analysing the findings of this survey, the same would be furnished to all line departments.

It may be mentioned that the survey includes important aspects of planning where BPL households are covered thus facilitating the implementation of various schemes initiated by the government of Meghalaya. (SP News)
