Nongpoh 12: The Ri Bhoi College, Ri Bhoi, in collaboration with the NSS Unit, Ri Bhoi College under the NSS Cell, NEHU on Monday, in an act of humanitarian gesture distributed rice and potatoes, along with soaps and homemade masks prepared by the NSS volunteers to the households in the adopted village of the NSS unit in Umskun village, Ri Bhoi District.
This act was necessitated as a result of the present pandemic and the subsequent lockdown which has left many households in the village deprived of their means of livelihood.
The team led by the two NSS Program Officers and some student Volunteers in the presence of the village headman, Mr. S.Kshair and a few members of the village community distributed the essentials to the households.
A short awareness programme on Covid-19 was conducted where the trained volunteers demonstrated on how to make homemade masks, hand washing and on social distancing.
Other campaign such as display of posters in the vernacular language, issued by the Government of Meghalaya, were also pasted in and around the village by the volunteers to raise awareness on hand hygiene and social distancing.
