Shillong, March 20: The emergency service has been impacted across all networks in the state. When compared with pre closure period of Aircel Services ( 1st Feb to 20th Feb 2018) and post period ( 21st Feb to 15th Mar 2018), the data shows the calls from Aircel subscribers have dropped by a staggering 81%, mainly affecting the rural Meghalaya.
GVK EMRI 108 services has seen a drop in calls from average 550-600 per day to between 250-300 calls . This has been so since 21st of Feb so the only thing that can be attribute to largely is shutting down of Aircel. Moreover with migrations happening to the other networks are making networks congested and we have calls not going thru or call drop or break in the calls and the quality of the calls.
Moreover because of good coverage particularly in rural Meghalaya, Aircel has a largest subscriber base and penetration in the rural areas of the state thus this is impacting the 108 service too with calls dropping by 50% and cases too coming down. With the call drop 108 services have seen emergency cases drop by more than 30%.
This situation is seen to lead the citizens across the state to experience poor network and call drops with people having to wait to migrate to other network or take new connection.. The porting generally takes more than a month to happen and people are experiencing difficulties in generating the UPC code required for porting.
