GNLA Cadre escape from Tura Civil Hospital

 

Tura, April 17:  One Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) Cadre today managed to escape from Tura Civil Hospital in presence of Meghalaya police.

The cadre was undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He along with another cadre was handed over to the police at Ampati by angry mob yesterday from Salmanpara, a village in South West Garo Hills, about 75 km from here.

The duo identified as — Ringrang A Sangma and Brijio M Marak were beaten up at Salmanpara village by mob, while they were on an extortion drive.

Both were injured and were undergoing treatment at Ampati community health centre. The doctors today referred the duo to Tura Civil Hospital for further treatment.

GNLA cadre Brijio M Marak, who had broken his right hand managed to escape from doctor’s chamber. He managed to flee in presence of two Meghalaya police personnel.

Superintendent of Police, South West Garo Hills, R Muthu said, “The GNLA cadre had gone to the village with an objective of extorting money. The villagers were apprehensive of their intention and gave them a case and thrashed them up. Later, the villagers called the police and handed them over”.

Police had recovered two mobile handsets, extortion note and photos of GNLA cadres from their possession. “Police is investigating the matter”, said Muthu.(SP News)
