A 28-year-old woman was gang raped today at Pipulbari in Garo Hills

Tura, July 13: A 28-year-old woman was raped by a group of miscreants today at Pipulbari, along Assam – Meghalaya border village. The woman was alone in her house, when a group of 15 unidentified persons barged into her residence.

The incident took place around 2 am. Meghalaya police rescued her this morning, when villagers found her lying unconscious in a nearby forest.

Pipulbari village is along Assam – Meghalaya border about 48 km from Tura and is under Garobadha police station. The victim is undergoing treatment at Hatsingimari public health centre in Assam’s Dhubri district.

According to the victim, a group of dacoits barged in her house at 2 am, while she was sleeping. “They took away gold ornaments, 2 mobile handsets and a lakh in cash”, she said.

Her husband is a trader and was away at the time of the incident. The miscreants had sharp weapons and one was even pointing gun on her head.

“They kept a gun on my forehead and threatened to kill me. I tried to escape from their clutches but they chased and caught me. Then put me in a vehicle and drove me to a nearby forest and raped me”, she added.

Based on her statement police have identified one Kabir Ali and Zahirul Islam, who hails from Pipulbari village.

“After raping me, Kabir abused me with the intention to kill but I became unconscious”, she narrated.   In her statement, she also said that her husband was away for the last three days as he was threatened by a group.

Mankachar police station has registered the case as victim’s house falls under Assam’s jurisdiction.  Police is investigating the matter. The accused are absconding.(SP News)
