Shillong, April 08: A massive fire broke out in Barapathar today afternoon wherein more than eight houses were burnt down at around 11.45 AM and the estimated loss in the incident is expected to be in lakhs.
According to one of the residents of Barapathar, “The fire broke out at around 11.45 am and since most of the houses were of wood the fire spread wildly all thanks to the strong wind that was blowing which added in spreading the fire.”
When ask if the reason was known another eye witness said, “Someone had left a tea kettle unattended for a long time in a house which led to the fire.”
More than eight fire tenders reached the spot but most of the damage was already done before the arrival of the fire tenders.(SP News)
