Aadhaar cannot made mandatory if the matter is not clear KSU tell Education minister Dr Laloo

Shillong, August 03: The Khasi Students’ Union ( KSU ) draw your kind attention  to the advertisement published  on the 2  August 2016 in the Shillong Times with regards to the application of scholarship for the year 2016-17 making it mandatory for the students of the state to submit their Aadhaar  along with the other essential documents to meet the requirements of the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education in the state of Meghalaya.

The union wish to highlight that the Supreme order on the 15th October 2015 with regards to Aadhaar is crystal clear that it cannot be made mandatory until a final decision is reached, therefore we can  term the above advertisement a violation and can also attract “contempt of court”. The issue of LPG connection which has also been linked to Aadhaar has also been exempted in the state of Meghalaya due to the same concerns.

If you may recall that this issue has been kept in abeyance by the state government after the Union had raised this issue with the Chief Minister and hence the government had resolved and decided to organize awareness campaign to address the confusion and apprehension of the people in the entire state.

In conclusion ,the Union demands immediate action and that the above mentioned advertisement be exempted for  the students of the state from submitting their Aadhaar  for the scholarship and thereby avoiding any unnecessary complication  to our students who depend on scholarship to support their educational pursuit.
