Shillong, April 27: Meghalaya Education Department in collaboration with National Law University, Meghalaya today conducted an outreach programme to Principals, Teachers and Students of Higher Secondary Schools from East Khasi Hills and adjoining districts at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat Building, Shillong.
The programme was graced by Mr Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya as the Chief Guest and High Court Judges, Mr Justice H S Thangkhiew and Mr Justice W Diengdoh as Special Guests.
While delivering his address as the Chief Guest, Mr Justice Sanjib Banerjee informed that the academic session of the National Law University (NLU) will commence from July of this year and the students’ online applications have started from 21st April which will end on 21st May and the admission test is slated on 28th May. The merit list will be published on the 9th of June and classes will begin from the 10th of July, 2023.
Mr Justice Banerjee also informed that for undergraduate courses a total of 60 students will be enrolled, with 20 each in BA LLB, BBA LLB and BS LLB honours and there will be 10 post-graduates students.
He mentioned that the annual fee structure for the undergraduate and postgraduate programs is much lower than what private colleges and universities and other national universities charge.
Since the University is new and to attract applications from aspiring lawyers of the state, such outreach programmes will also be held across the state, he added.
Others who were present included Shri Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary, Education, Shri CVD Diengdoh, Secretary, Law & Legal Remembrancer & Parliamentary Affairs among others.
