Shillong, October 20: The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District Mr Pravin Bakshi denied all the allegation alleged by the conglomeration of NGO’s from Garo Hills and he has term it, that they have misinformed, in the press statement issued today said that “ I would like to issue a strong rebuttal on the totally false allegations of the conglomerate of NGOs who have misinformed and claimed that on 18th October , 2016 in view of the closure of shops called on 19th October by these same NGOs only non-tribals were called . The notice for the meeting and information about the directions of the Hon’ble High Court was general and addressed to all shops and establishments . It is frivolous to suggest that only one section of traders was called”
The DC also said that the meeting attendance was taken and anybody is free to inspect in our office the names of the traders , pastors and senior citizens who had come for the meeting . However , the attendance list cannot be shared publicly as all the persons concerned could be targeted by the pressure groups as always has been the case in the past .
The agenda of the meeting was to inform and sensitize the people and traders about the directions of the state government in compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble High Court relating to banning of bandhs and closures or shutdown by militant and any other organizations . The meeting was called and FIR lodged as per clear and specific instructions of the higher authorities in the state and in respectful compliance of the Hon’ble High Court .
The traders who chose to keep their shops and establishments open on 19th October , 2016 have reposed their faith in the judicial system , criminal justice system , the Constitution of the country and law of the land though even all of them deeply mourn and condemn the very unfortunate loss of life in the case .The security cover in Rishipara is for safety of the several innocent people , children and women who also live there who have nothing to do with this violence and they have already been attacked by a petrol bomb attack and pelting of stones .
All action as per law has already been taken with magisterial inquiry ordered on 15th October , 2016 itself . A police personnel has already been suspended . Eight accused have been arrested already . Action against the doctor for alleged negligence can only take place after magisterial inquiry which has been asked to focus on this aspect first and furnish a preliminary report on this aspect only .
The insinuation of dividing people is wrong and misleading as people irrespective of community made a conscious choice to open or not . It is now through press releases of the pressure groups that people are being threatened with very incendiary and inflammatory references . Tura is a haven of peace where people of all castes , religions and communities live in mutual harmony and peace and the peace of the town should never be compromised by incitement to violence and creating situations which make innocent , peace loving people vulnerable .Over the last few days several dozens of frantic calls have been made by people of all communities requesting for peace and harmony and asking the undersigned to ensure it at all costs and expressing support for all steps taken by the district administration and orders of the Hon’ble High Court , said Mr Pravin Bakshi Deputy Commissioner West Garo Hills District, Tura.
