Shillong, Lber 16: The minister incharge parliamentary affair Mr Martin M Danngo in his reply to the resolution move by Dr Jemino Mawthoh for the amendment on the Meghalaya Compulsory Registration of Marriage Act, said that the Government is contemplating to amendment this act in this current budget session.
The minister said that, “ I could understand the sentiment that the members who were participating in the discussion on behalf of all church denomination, but during their participation they have argued, that the MCRM Act is to curb broken family in the state”.
The demand to have this act has come even form the NGO’s like Maitshaprhang movement, without any act it has cause instability in the family, but with this act the objective is to safe guard the family, and the state government has respond to the demand of the state.
The state government has acted after getting opinion from various quarters, like the Arch Bishop Rev Dominic Jala of the Catholic Church, from the elders of the Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church from Tura.
The minister said that all the suggestion made by the members who are participating in the resolution, Dr Jemino Mawthoh the mover of the resolution, Mr Titosstarwell Chyne, Mr Phlastingwell Pangniang, Mr D Jyndiang, Me Metbah Lyngdoh, Mr Ardent M Basaiawmoit and from the treasury bench Mr Rowell Lyngdoh.
The Minister said that the MLA from Mawkyrwat during his deliberation has spell out the objective of the state government in bring this MCRM Act, the MLA from Nongkrem have express the need of having the act except on certain rule that need to be amended so that it will not come into conflict with existing act. The minister assures the house that the amendment on the MCRM Act will be done in this ungoing budget session only.
The mover of the resolution Dr Mawthoh withdraw his resolution after getting the assurance from the minister that MCRM Act will be amended with this budget session.
