Shillong, July 24: Lieutenant General HJS Sachdev, PVSM, AVSM, SM, ADC, Director General Assam Rifles accompanied by Mrs Vandana Sachdev, President ARWWA inaugurated the Assam Rifles Adventure Cell at its Headquarters in Laitkor , Shillong on 23 of this month.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General HJS Sachdev told the august gathering present that training forms a very important aspect in the all round development of a Soldier and the Adventure pursuits undertaken by the Cell will add a new dimension to the training of Soldiers apart from inculcating the spirit of Adventure. He further added that the Adventure activities 0will not only increase the soldier’s ability to take risk but also make him more confident to face challenges.
Lieutenant General HJS Sachdev, PVSM, AVSM, SM, ADC, Director General Assam Rifles also expressed his satisfaction on the creation of the Assam Rifles Aero Node at Laitkor and Aqua Sports Node at Barapani. The General Officer exhorted the young soldiers of Assam Rifles to utilize the facilities available optimally.
Assam Rifles has been deployed in North East since its raising in 1835. The terrain and weather conditions of North East in which an Assam Rifles soldier operates involves physical fitness, mental robustness and an ability to face challenges/hardship. The increased adventure activity shall certainly assist the soldiers prepare for their role apart from de-stressing and providing the thrills which come with Adventure sports. The terrain conditions at Shillong in terms of presence of Umiam lake nearby and plenty of low mountains in vicinity were ideally suited for establishing an Adventure Training Node for the Force.
