Assam Riffle had neutralized the ULFA presence at the District Chanlang of Arunchal Pradesh

Shillong, July 27: Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles under DAO Division alongwith rep of Assam police launched an operation in the wee hours of 26th morning in which one hardcore militant of ULFA was neutralized. The operation was based on input from intelligence agencies of an ULFA (I) militant hiding in the vicinity of Wara – I (08 km from Jagun). The militant had infiltrated with three other cadres on 19/20th July 2016 and was involved in placing of IEDs at Dibrugarh and Tinsukia which were recovered by SF on July 24, 2016. The militant was being tracked by the Army and police intelligence agencies. The militant was carring out recconaisance for placing more IEDs.

Army intelligence and Assam Police were closely monitoring the activities and movement of this group. On specific intelligence input of a militant hiding in a hut in general area Wara – I a column was launched. The leading scout closed in towards the suspected hut. The militant fired upon the leading scout and tried to escape. The troops retaliated and in the ensuring gun fight one hardcore militant SS Cpl Bhaiti Milli was neutralisied and one .38 US made revolver along with amn was recovered. Till last report search and combing operations were in progress.

In succession to the IEDs recovered from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia this operation will break the backbone of ULFA in Arunachal Pradesh and will boost the Security Forces morale and neutralised the threats in view of the forthcoming Independence Day. This operation is a major relief to the residents of Tinsukia District . The Assam Rifles troops of DAO Division have once again lived upto the motto of “ Sentinels of the North East” and “Friends of the North East People”.
