Shillong, June 09: The Shillong Golf Festival , a first time ever golf event held in North East with the Support of Incredible India – Ministry Of Tourism & Golfplus Monthly, saw more than 110 golf enthusiasts competing for the Gross trophy at the picturesque Shillong Golf Course on 7th and 8th June 2014. Mr Gaurav Bajaj lifted the main trophy which was on Gross format.
The event was played over 18 holes with a staggered start followed by the prize distribution function.
The prize distribution was graced by Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family Welfare etc, Mr A L Hek, Mr David Nongrum MLA and Chairman MTDC, Mr AH Scott Lyngdoh and Dr W Kharshiing – MD, Shillong Club Ltd.
Mr. A.L. Hek, himself a keen golfer assured full support to the event in future years. “Shillong is an important section in the Golf Tourism circuit of North East & a number of initiatives are being taken to promote the sport. In October it is planned to bring the Professional Golf Tour to Shillong with the prize money of Rs.40 lacs. It is important that we realise the heritage value of the Golf Course which indeed is a magnificent golf facility comparable to many top golf courses,” he added.(SP News)
