Both the parties – NPP and Congress is blazing guns at each other in Garo Hills

Tura, April 05: After 37 years, the prestigious Parliamentary seat of Tura is witnessing an interesting battle. The seat represented by veteran politician Purno Agitok Sangma, the tallest leader from North East, who was a former Lok Sabha speaker and several times union minister, and a chief minister of Meghalaya.

Nine consecutive wins from Tura. This time the battle for Purno, who is pitted against a political greenhorn, Daryl William Momin, who carries the legacy of founder chief minister of Meghalaya, Williamson Sangma.

Though Purno is banking on his career record to win this election, Momin is playing the emotional card of his grandfather, who led the hill state movement for the creation of Meghalaya, carved out of Assam.

For Congress, Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma is all out to clinch
the Garo hills citadel for Momin.

Both the parties – NPP and Congress is blazing guns at each other, attacks
and counter attacks.

It is a complete battleground, with Mukul Sangma taking the lead. In last
assembly election, Mukul ensured Congress party’s 13 MLAs from Garo hills, Purno’s NPP won just two seats.

It is a prestige battle for Mukul, who want to defeat Purno and become the
top politician from Garo hills.

In an exclusive tete-e-tete, Mukul Sangma speaks confidently about Congress candidates win in both Tura and Shillong parliamentary seat. He says that Congress has chosen Daryl William Momin as Tura candidate as young age is always an advantage. He says “Young ones have reasons to prove themselves.
It is not that a seasoned politician will do justice to their long innings”.(SP News)
