Shillong, June 18: The watchful BSF troops deployed at Shella in East Khasi Hills Distt of Meghalaya acting on a tip-off on gold smuggling from India to Bangladesh once again made a commendable job at border. The BSF conducted a joint operation along with a team of Meghalaya Police raided a house near International Border and apprehended five Indian nationals including one lady and recovered one gold Biscuit Bar valued at over Rs 3.15 lakh, besides Indian currency one lac.
The smuggler they were identified as namely Mr Wali Ul Miraz 31 years Mr Imran Khan 27 years, Mr Shaharuddin 28 years Mr Sirajuh Haque 30 years all are from Barpetta District Assam and Smti Sidora Shongwan, from Sahlapshella Village under Shella police station of East Khasi Hills District Meghalaya.
There has been no seizure of gold along Indo-Bangladesh border since long, though smuggling of gold has always been in news but through other routes. This is a maiden seizure of gold by BSF troops in Maghalaya. The sudden increase in smuggling activities have put BSF troops more on the toes. Still we are determined to foil any ill design of smugglers on the International border said Shri P. K. Dubey, Inspector General BSF Meghalaya Ftr. Further interrogation and investigation will give some lead to check this new fraud in Meghalaya. Apprehended persons and all the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
In the mean time heavy rain fall has also disturbed the administrative toil of few BSF outposts in Purnanagar, Shella, Thariaghat, Betgora, Omkhawa, Mukamchera areas in East Khasi Hills Distt, Barmanbari, Kachuadogri in South West Khasi Hills Distt, Sonatal in West Jaintia Hills Distt and Angratoli in South Garo Hills Distt of Meghalaya. Flood like situation at places has caused huge damage to the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence (IBBF) at many places. Some Govt. property at post has also been damaged in area of 123 Bn BSF. The IBBF has inundated at many low lying areas in Meghalaya.
