DG, BSF take stock on, on-going delineation of the I.B after LBA with Bangladesh

Shillong, May 02: In continuation to analysing the prevailing Security scenario in Meghalaya on the second day of his visit, Sh K K Sharma, IPS, Director General BSF visited Pyrdwah and met locals of the area while taking stock of the current on-going delineation of the international boundary after the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) between India and Bangladesh.

He also visited remote Harai area in East Jaintia Hills before addressing BSF troops in a Sainik Sammelan at BSF Ftr HQr Shillong. While addressing the Officers and Jawans of BSF, he exhorted them to maintain utmost vigil on border and ensure security of border and border population. He emphasized on skill development programmes for border population, training them for getting better employment.

Shri Sharma praised the efforts of the Border Security Force at BOP Gumaghat where computer training is being imparted to senior school girls and other dwelling people in border area.  He also distributed sweets to the locals and interacted with them. Inspiring to help local border population to earn their livelihood, the BSF Chief emphasised on increasing the feeling of brotherhood and fraternity between BSF and border population.

He said “ it will lead to reduction in criminal activities across borders as improved financial condition at home will prevent youth to indulge in criminal activities”. While returning back to Shillong Shri Sharma visited Ram Krishna Mission   Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee and motivated the students to join security forces while addressing them.

Smt Renu Sharma, President, BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) also accompanied the DG BSF during the Shillong visit. She visited welfare centres and BWWA centres at Umpling and Mawpat campuses of BSF and interacted with the BSF ladies. She encourage the ladies to participate in social activities for up-liftment of women in the society. She also emphasized over the women empowerment and skill development for the important role of women in overall progress of the nation. She visited BSF play school “Ankur” at Umpling and met with small kids.

Before leaving for Guwahati on his third day of his visit Sh K K Sharma, IPS, Director General BSF laid foundation stone of Administrative Block at Frontier headquarters Shillong.
