Shillong, December 7: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) today started their three day hunger strike at additional parking lot near additional secretariat demanding the implementation of their 14 point charter of demand which includes the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The District administration did not allowed allowed to stage their hunger strike beyond 4pm but leaders of the HYC defied the order and stayed beyond the permissible time. Later, at around 6.30PM the Council members were removed from the protest site and were loaded in a bus and taken to Mawngap Police station, in the presence of police security and Magistrate.
Speaking to reporters after the HYC members were removed from the protest cite, SP East Khasi Hills Davis N Marak said they cannot allow then to continue with the hunger strike as tomorrow they are not allowed to stage their protest because the Assembly session.They cannot allow the hunger strike to continue at night because monitoring will also become a problem.
The SP said that they are just removing them from this area for now but will see if there is any further course of action which needs to be taken. The HYC cannot hold any protest since the assembly session begins tomorrow.
