Shillong, May 31: The District Magistrate, South Garo Hills District has clarified that other than routine immunization programmes by the Health & Family Welfare Department, there are no other vaccination drives being carried out in the district at present. And if at all there are any, the same will be done only by the village ANM and Male Health Workers and vaccinators who are trained and authorized to do so.
Of late, there had been rumours of some suspicious characters going round the villages in Garo Hills and forcefully administering injections which would render children barren and infertile. One such case was reported from village Namchapara, near Kapasipara on the international border recently where some car driven people lured a young girl by offering a toffee and injected her with some substance.
The District Magistrate has therefore, cautioned the parents and the teachers to remain alert from such unscrupulous people and also to keep a close watch on their children and wards by constantly maintaining a tab while they are playing in the neighbourhoods.
