Shillong, August 23: Dr. Vincent T. Darlong has been appointed as the new Vice Chncellor of Martin Luther Christian University. Dr. Darlong has eminent record of achievements. His academic career was in the field of Zoology where he completed his PhD on the topic “Impact of shifting cultivation on soil fauna” in the year 1987 from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.
His key areas of professional exposure and interests are in natural resource management and livelihoods, community based biodiversity conservation and community forestry, environment and social impact assessments, research and development in rural development, natural resources among others.
Dr. Darlong has contributed immensely to the community through numerous technical papers which were presented in the national and international seminars and also has published numerous books. Looking into the contribution of Dr. Darlong, he has highlighted the issues faced by the indigenous people especially youth and women of North East India in areas of rural farming and livelihoods, forestry, land rights.
Apart from his engagement with the communities in North East India, Dr Darlong has also contributed to the Government of India in various task force and working groups/committees at different capacities.
