Drop out school children in Meghalaya is about 20 pc said Paul Lyngdoh

Shillong July 8: The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Mr Paul Lyngdoh of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly said that the drop out of student in the state is about 20 percent which is very high; the PAC has call called for the promotion of free education to reduce cases of drop-out rates in the state.

Speaking to Media person after the meeting with the official of the Education department the PAC has advice the department to promote free education in which the cess on education is being levied from Government departments like Mining and Geology and others is being utilized.

On the  SSA programme, he said that the pattern of funding is at the ration of 90 : 10, on where the Center funds 90 per cent by way of grants and 10 per cent by the state government, in Meghalaya in the last sixteen years sanction for books for the  Lower Primary level is Rs 150 and fro the  Upper Primary is Rs 250 per student which such small amount it cannot be effectively implemented. Publisher are not ready to print book prescribe by MBOSE due to law price.

The Chairman said that the official could not could not properly answer to quires raised the PAC but they have assured that they look into the issue the PAC want to see that the programmes like SSA is implemented successfully in the state and the state government should fine ways and means whenever possible.
