SHILLONG, July 27: Non-medical employees of Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital have set a two week deadline to authorities at Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly (KJPA) office to immediate remove the medical superintendent, Dr David D Tariang alleging that he is responsible for the various anomalies in the hospital.
Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with KJPA Senior Administrative Secretary Rev NS Phawa, the staff of the hospital Basukshisha Syntengumwi said, “We have given the Assembly two weeks’ time for the remove the medical superintendent and if they are unable to remove him then we as employees of the hospital have to rethink on our future course of action.”
Terming the meeting with Rev NS Phawa as unfruitful, she however said that the Rev has assured them that the matter will be forwarded to the Executive Committee to discuss at length on the matter concerning the hospital.
“If anyone carries out their duties accordingly then this situation will never come up in which we employees have to step forward and agitate because of the numerous uncertainties in the hospital,” she said.She informed that in the meeting with Phawa the employees have expressed their grievances to which he has assured them that an Executive Committee meeting will be convened to discuss on their demands and grievances at length.
Justifying their stand to terminate the service of the medical superintendent she said, “We have been demanding the removal of the medical superintendent because we have no more confidence in him.”
According to her, if the current medical superintendent steps down there are plenty of Doctors who are willing to work in the hospital in order to give proper service to the patients and also uplift the hospital.
“We will soon be celebration the hospital’s centenary celebrations however we are not even happy to celebrate it since the hospital at present is in crises,” she said adding that there are many people that are providing donation to the hospital but now the donations are getting lesser by the day.
She alleges that the hospital has yet to pay the outstanding dues to various stockers for the past one year and the amount is continuously increasing.
Meanwhile Rev. Phawa said, “Even I don’t have any more say in the matter since the authority has been given to the 11 people in the special committee.”
He added, “I will just have to inform the executive committee on what they have demanded and it is up to the committee to make a final call on the matter.”
