Shillong, May 23: Almost every other day, the BSF apprehending cattle smugglers from the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Meghalaya. Despite efforts of the Border Security Force to curb cattle smuggling, there seems to be no end to this menace.

The troops of Border Security Force have been able to prevent cattle smuggling considerably in the last few months, and the increased seizure is one proof that. The unregulated interstate transportation of cattle is resulting in a large number of cattle reaching the Indo-Bangladesh International Border.

The troops of Border Security Force deployed at Fokachindi, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, noticed some smugglers alongwith cattle attempting to cross over towards Bangladesh through International Border. The BSF troops rushed towards the point and challenged them.

Smugglers managed to flea away taking advantage of thick vegetation except one Indian smuggler who was caught along with 27 Nos cattle approximate value Rs. 2.8 lacs.

The apprehended one Indian cattle smuggler  identified as namely Jainendra Sangma 55 years of  West Garo Hills, Meghalya. The apprehended person has revealed the names of few Indian and Bangladeshi persons who are involved in cattle smuggling across International Border in Meghalaya.

The Meghalaya police has been informed about those names by the Border Security Force. During last four and half month of 2017 the BSF troops have seized 4377 cattle worth more than Rs.4.5 Crores on International Border at Meghalaya while being smuggled to Bangladesh.

It is mentioned that the Garobadha Haat, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya is the main source of cattle for these smugglers. From this Haat the cattle are collected and concentrated near the border village. The smugglers are always on the look-out to outsmart the troops of Border Security Force along the international border.

There are ‘linemen’ whose task is to keep tabs on BSF movement. Then there are ‘transporters’ who ensure the cattle to go across the border, and there are ‘stoners’ who rain stones on BSF troops to scatter. Still un-phased with this tactics of miscreants, the BSF troops having been doing commendable job at border. Apprehended persons and seized items handed over to concern department for further legal action.
