Amapti June 06: The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will work in tandem with concerned district administrations to formulate a plan restricting the use of toxic and non biodegradable substances like plastic to reverse environmental degradation.
This was stated by GHADC Chairman Boston Marak during the observance of World Environment Day at Ampati Degree College organized by the Garo Student’s Union in collaboration with the South West Garo Hills District Administration on Monday.
The gathering themed “Join the race to make the world a better place” was attended by close to 700 students from in and around Ampati.
The GHADC Chairman while elaborating on reversible environmental degradation stated that it was high time the community took upon itself the responsibility to safeguard the environment for the future generations to come. Stating that the unregulated use of plastic bags was destroying the environment he informed that the GHADC would collaborate with respective district administrations to regulate the use of plastic bags. Marak urged the students gathered at the occasion to spread the message of conservation and act as sentinels against environmental degradation. He later congratulated the organizers for their endeavor to create an awareness on a topic deemed one of the most important globally.
The Chairman also planted tree saplings as part of the programme along with other invitees and dignitaries. Earlier GSU, Western Zone (South), Ampati delivered the welcome address and spoke on the objective of the observance of the world environment day.
