India has yet to fully wake up to the implications of the unchecked immigration:KHNAM

Shillong, February 08: The president of the KHNAM youth wing Mr  Thomas Passah in the press statement stated that the North Eastern State are bounded by five countries Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar and Nepal, the North East India is very vulnerable to illegal immigration. The continue influx of illegal immigrations from Bangladesh has been a deep concern in the region and in Meghalaya.

Quoting the then Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, wht he said in 2003, estimated that about 15 million Bangladeshi were in India. The Task Force on Border Management which submitted its report to the Government of India in August 2000, also estimated 15 million Bangladeshi with about three lakh entering India illegally every year.

In 2007 about 25,712 out of the 5 lakh Bangladeshi who come to India did not return after the expiry of their visa while in 2006 more than 24,000 went missing from the 4.84 lakh Bangladeshi who had entered India with valid documents.  About 12 lakh Bangladeshi, who had entered India between 1972 and 2005 with valid documents have not returned home, India have been able to push back only 15,000 of them in 2005, 12,000 in 2006 and 11,500 in 2007. Bangladesh is a major source of cheap labour, Illegal migration from across the border has continued unabated for over five decades.

India have yet to fully wake up to the implications of the unchecked  immigration for the national security, today there are about 15 billion Bangladeshi, 2.2 billion Nepalese and about lakh of Tibitants in India. With so much history of illegal immigration, is sadden to see our Union MoS Railways Mr Rajen Gohain have solely taken mixed marriage to bangladeshi as a sole reason for illegal Migration, this is just an attempt to fulfil the National Interest without taking into consideration the regional interest of Meghalaya.

It would be a joke to say that all the above figure immigrants are married to tribals or residence of the North East including Meghalaya. The fact is that there is an all round failure from the Govt of India and the state to come to grips with the problem of illegal immigration, unfortunately, action on this subject invariably assumes communal overtones, with political parties taking sides to suit the interest of their votes bank.

The massive illegal immigration poses a grave danger to our country, social harmony and economic well being and as a party they  every right to protect ourselves from any external forces which threaten our existences.  The KHNAM have made their  stand which was published in the new papers back in August 2016 that “before railway implement ILP” KHNAM Strongly stand opposed the Railway and stands grounds for the welfare of the indigenous communities and genuine residence of the state.

If the Govt of India is keen for development of the state without endangering our existence we demand that the Govt of India in collaboration with the state government begin to detection of all illegal immigrants, delete their names from the voters list and depot them back. We are not against any development activities but if those development activities threaten our existence, we have to oppose such developmental project.
