Jaintia NGO’s call 24 hours bandh in EJHD on wednesday

Jowai, April 13: The unrest Jaintia NGO’s over NH-44, which include the  KSU-Jaintia Hills District Unit, AJYWO Central Body, HNYF-East Jaintia Zone, ka FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle and the traditional chiefs’ organization, the SRS-East Jaintia Hills called  a 24-hour total bandh in East Jaintia Hills District (of the state of Meghalaya) starting from 5am of the 16th, April and will end till 5am the next morning in protest of the government’s adamant attitude to fulfill their long pending demand in repairing the Naitional Highway 44.

“In our public meeting held in this connection on the 5th of this month at Khliehriat, the capital town of EJHD, the public themselves, have decided to call this total bandh in EJHD, as they were angry with the government of Meghalaya and the NHAI for their negligence to repair the dilapidated shape of NH-44  from Soomer (WJHD) to Malidor (EJHD) that put commuters in grave troubles travelling over this road.” Mr M H Dkhar, AJYWO Chief informed in this press statement.

“We have had so many meetings with the government and many promises to repair the deplorable condition of the said road have been promised to us but till date not even one such promises have been kept by the government and its executive agencies”. Therefore, we have no any other option but to agitate to squeeze the deft ears of the government and to open its blind eyes” Mr SS Niangti, General Secretary KSU-JHDU said.

“We are tired of the unfulfilled promises of the NHAI and the government of Meghalaya. It is the adamant attitude of these concerned authorities that forced the public of EJHD to resort to this kind of agitation and not the public themselves who wish to do so.” Mr Dkhar added

“Mr Dkhar also said, “The NH-44 is the life-line of not only the people of EJHD but also of the people of the North-Eastern States of India. Therefore, we the 5 NGO’s request the people from all walks of life, both from EJHD and North-East India  to support the bandh fully, as it is for the benefit of all concerned and not for any individual or any vested group”.

“All concerned are requested to co-operate with us during the hour of the bandh, so as to avoid unwanted incidents that may be masterminded by opportunists. If any untoward incidents happen during the hours of the bandh, the 5 NGO’s shall not take any responsibility of the same.” Mr SS Niangti, General Secretary of KSU-JHDU informed.(SP News)
