Jowai Greater Water Supply near completion it will commission soon

Shillong, July 06: The Jowai Greater Water Supply Scheme is near completion and it will commission soon said official sources from the PHE Department.

The delay of the work at the initial stage is due to the delay in get the clearance from the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and the BRTF who did not part with their land.

Jowai town is supply water by pumping water from Myntdu River. The GJWS is done in two phase, phase one was started in 1980 at the cost of Rs 95 lakhs and the phase two was started in 1985 at the cost of Rs 25 lakhs respectively.

The people of Jowai objected about the plan of the PHE to pump water from Mih Myntdu river which made the PHE to look for others sources. With all these changes has delay the project.

The PHE Department is working hard to see that the project is completed soon to ease residence of Jowai town in getting drinking water. The project in near completion within few month will be commission official sources said from the PHE Department.(SP News)
