Local film makers formed the Films Television Producers Guild Meghalaya

Shillong, November  22: Local film makers in the state with an aim to promote, help, encourage and develop the history and culture of the state through the medium of films and television on Tuesday formed the Films Television Producers Guild Meghalaya (FTPGM).

The objective of the Guild is to take measures in censoring the films in India, to register banners, titles, stories etc, to organise seminars, conferences, workshops, film festivals, film marketing, awards etc…

Addressing reporters here today, award winning Khasi films director and producer Pradip Kurbam also the new Chairman of the Guild said, “We have come up with this guild in the interest of the film television producers of Meghalaya because there are lots of problems which we are going through right now especially when it comes to matters concerning the censor board.”

Informing that many producers in the state are not aware of the procedures in how a film gets censored, he said, “Me being in this field for the past many years felt that there was a need for me to take up this step in guiding them (producers) and through this guild we want to try and create films which can go places and not strict only to this region.”

Elaborating more on the censor aspects, he said if a title of a file has already been registered with some other association then there might be problems that the film might get censored.

“This has happened with around 12 locally made films from the state till date all due to the title issue however we are now associated with the Eastern Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (EIMPPA) so they will be helping and guiding us in this matter,” he said.
