Meghalaya Anganwadi Workers took a procession to demand their justice

Shillong, April 11: Hundreds of Meghalaya Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (MAWHU) along with Asha Workers Union (AWU) on Friday walked in procession shouting the the slogan “We want Justice, We want Justice”, “Ngi dawa ia ka hok”, “ngi kwah ka siew, katkum ka kam”.

Speaking to our reporter, secretary of the Meghalaya aganwadi workers and helpers union (MAWHU), Diangtimai Lyngdoh said that the main agenda is the Union’s demand for justice, and demand for the additional honorarium.

“We are not being paid according to our work unlike other states where the Anganwadi workers get the additional honorarium including extra Rs 500/- or Rs 1000/- and helpers get Rs 250/- or Rs 500/- but in Meghalaya this is not so.”

Diangtimai Lyngdoh further said there is a list that has been sent to Delhi by the government which states that in Meghalaya Rs 50 /-is paid for the additional honorarium but the actual fact is that even that Rs 50 is not being paid.

When asked if they have approached the department concern Diangtimai Lyngdoh said, “We did approached the officers concerned and they say that Rs 50 is the RSPY Scheme but actually we have not include that RSPY Scheme.”

“We also demand that the government should consider us as the government employee in grade 3 and grade 4,” added Lyngdoh.

Fulchida Dkhar, Secretary of the Asha Union said that in the beginning the government affirmed that Asha Union comprises of social workers who have to work only once in a month but as days passed by the work load is increased to 24 hours.

“We also demand that like other states we should also get the additional honorarium along with the travelling allowances, daily allowances and aid from the centre.(SP News)
