Meghalaya govt has not paid the salary of 450 nurses for the last five month

SHILLONG, Aug 2: The government of Meghalaya has not paid the salary of  more than 450 nurses in the state for the last five month, which has made the  Federation of  Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) central body and Nongthymmai Circle  yo meet the  Health Minister Mr A. L Hek  today and demand for the  immediate release of the pending salaries of over 135 nurses in Jaintia Hills.

In this meeting the Federation said that nurses who have not get their salaries including  East, West and Ri-bhoi district there are around 450 plus nurses still waiting to receive their salaries which have remained pending for the last 5 months.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Health Minister, the FKJGP publicity and information secretary, Eldie N Lyngdoh said that the Minister has assured them that he will soon send a letter to the central government to release the pending salaries of the nurses.

He however informed that the Minister was unable to give them any concrete assurance on when the salaries will be released.

Nurses have yet to receive their salaries for the past 5 months and this has cause them many problems,” he said adding that the Federation will also meet the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) to inquire whether or not the letter was sent to the central government.

Stating that the government should take up the issue faced by the nurses seriously, he said, “When we look at the teachers in the state they too are facing much hardship and we feel the government should address such issues.”

Meanwhile, with regards to the Rynjah dispensary the Federation informed that the Minister has assured them that very soon the dispensary will be upgraded to a Public Health Centre (PHC).
