Meghalaya Police in Garo Hills crackdown on GNLA, ASAK, Bank accounts 28 lakh in Tura Bank

east-garo-hills-police-seized-gnla-moneyShillong, December 01: Just  with 22 days of the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes,the  militants desperate attempts to deposit their ill-gotten money in bank accounts in Garo Hills.

Meghalaya Police in Garo Hills have initiated crackdown on the local militant groups GNLA, ASAK and others to thwart their attempts to deposit cash in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations by  using civilians bank accounts.

Today, South Garo Hills police have arrested Mr Sengchang  Momin and Mr  Solly Sangma and traced Rs 28,00,000/-, to bank accounts in Tura. The arrested persons have confessed that the cash belongs to Baichung, Area Commander of GNLA.

The police have issued directions to the Bank authorities to freeze these bank accounts for further investigation. It to mention here that the East Garo Hills police have traced and seized Rs 35 Lakh from Batsrang and Saljepa of Williumnagar on 17/11/2016 who are hard core GNLA cadres.

Also,  Govt of India has issued general alert that outlawed militant groups might park their ill gotten money in bank accounts of civilians. Police have requested all the Banks in the State to be watchful of any suspicious deposits and to inform the police in all such cases.

Police have also alerted the public not to allow their bank accounts to park terror funds belong to militant groups and to pass on information to the police in case they are forced or compelled by any militant group or anti-social elements.
