Meghalaya rack up 400-plus on Day 1 of U-16 Cricket match versus Arunachal Pradesh

Shillong, December 7: Captain Rushikesh Jadhav and wicketkeeper Dikshit Parmar struck centuries as Meghalaya batsmen ran riot against the bowlers of Arunachal Pradesh on the opening day of their U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match at the MCA Cricket Ground here on Thursday.

At stumps on the first day of the three-day match, the hosts had accumulated 430 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 97 overs at a run rate of 4.43.

Jadhav took the morning session by storm, hitting his 107 from just 95 deliveries with 21 fours. The skipper and fellow opener Mrinal Das put on 153 for the first wicket before Jadhav was out lbw to Dikshant Rana. Left-hander Das continued on but fell short of his own century by just 9 runs.

Das and Parmar (106) put on a century stand of their own, making 144 together before the former was caught off the bowling of Milon Dey.

Meghalaya then lost another couple of wickets, including that of Parmar, who hit 19 boundaries, to reduce the hosts to 344/5. However, Kush Agarwal (51 not out) and Joydeep Deb (35 not out) are currently in an 86-run partnership, which has reinforced Meghalaya’s strong position.

Of the visitors’ bowlers, Dey claimed the best figures, taking 3 for an expensive 129 runs in 25 overs.
