Shillong, August 21: The undersecretary to the government of India, ministry mines, Mr P.Vinay Kumar, on the 9th of August this year has written to the Department of atomic energy, as uranium mining fall under its jurisdiction.
Mr Kumar has written this official letter to the atomic energy base on the representation that the ministry received from the North East Dialogue Forum,(NEDF) Imphal of Manipur.
The NEDF has written to the prime minister office (PMO) demanding that the Union Government should stop Uranium mining in Meghalaya, and construction of Big Dams in the whole of North Eastern Region.
In this letter from the ministry mines to the department of atomic energy said that, “ Copy of representation received from the North East Dialogue Forum, Imphal Manipur, received through Prime Minister’s office on the subject mention above, is forwarded for taking appropriate action as the mining of uranium come under the department of atomic energy”.
From the ministry mines has also intimidated to the North East Dialogue Forum, Imphal Manipur. The NEDF has sent the representation to the prime minister seek his intervention to stop mining of Uranium mining in Meghalaya and construction of Big Dams in the North Eastern Region.
