MLCU strives to develop students not only in the field of academics but in the overall development

Shillong June 16: With the main objective to strengthen students in being a blessing to themselves, to their families, to the society and to the world,  the Martin Luther Christian University today organised a visit to the Rilang Children’s Home,  A Don Bosco Centre for Child Rights,  at Nongshilliang,  Nongthymmai.

The visit is also kick start  for the upcoming University Week,  “AURORA 2017”,  is a welcoming break from the rush and tension of the academic world. Speaking at at the event the Coordinator of the Students Affair Committee,  Miss Pamela Nonghuloo,  said that the best way to kickstart the University Week is by celebrating it with the children of Rilang Children Home, and to be surrounded by such innocence and beauty.

She added, “The beauty of life lies in the sharing of love and joy with people who need it the most. The joy and happiness painted on the children of Rilang Children Home is the best reward for the celebration of AURORA 2017 in MLCU”.

The superintendent of the Children’s Home Sr. Jacinta informed that the Rilang Children’s Home houses 42 boys with their age ranging from 5 years old to 17 years old, and it was founded on 2010. This Home functions under the Bosco Intergrated Development Society and it also serves as a Shelter Home for boys who are lost or were found by the police.

The boys all do their schooling in H Elias Higher Secondary School and this year in the Home also boasted of having three boys who have cleared the SSLC Examinations.

The students of MLCU organised short games for the boys of the Home and songs were also performed by the students of the department of Fine Arts,  MLCU for the entertainment of the boys of the Home. Gifts,  cash donations and other items that were donated by the staff and student of MLCU were also presented to the Superintendent of the Home,  Sister Jacinta.

The “AURORA” week is the time for students to showcase their non-academic expertise and uniqueness in the field of music, art, sports and technology. As a development university, MLCU strives to develop students not only in the field of academics but in the overall development of the human being to enable the students to be well-rounded professionals who would serve with purpose, integrity and efficiency anywhere in the world.
