Shillong, January 23: Daniel Syiem, the Creative Head & Lead Designer of the label Daniel Syiem and Shri Rohit Jain, Chairman of RJ Foundation, a CSR initiative of CMJ Breweries takes immense pride in associating in promoting the usage of organic fabrics that preserve the hand-weaving traditions of the indigenous weaver tribes that reside in the villages of Meghalaya especially the RiBhoi District of Meghalaya which focuses on usage of fabrics like Ryndia (heritage fabric hand-woven by local weavers of Meghalaya).
It is an endeavour by both of them to help bring to light, the handlooms and textiles of the State and use the natural processes that sustain eco-systems and encourages recycling and minimal wastage which has for long been lingering in the dark, as well as, increase the potential of the weaving industry in the State to the outside world.
Daniel Syiem has a string of awards recognizing his unique international style and focus on promoting organic and ethnic material exclusive to the North-East region of India. Recently he showcased a collection for Smriti Irani, Minister of Textiles who invited him to represent Meghalaya in the Indian Textiles Show, 2017.
His debut in the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 made the fashion industry sit up and take notice of this talented designer and now he is unveiling his collection ‘ShaKiLum’ at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 to be held from 31st January to 4th February in Mumbai which is strongly supported by Shri Rohit Jain, Chairman of RJ Foundation. He will also be one of the keynote speakers for the ‘Dialogue on Northeast India in collaboration with United Nations India’.
Together they hope to translate the show into viable orders from national and international trade buyers that will not only increase the potential for revenue for the weavers but will also increase awareness of sustainable garments procured from Meghalaya that can be both fashionable as well as environment friendly.
RJ Foundation, which is committed to the socio upliftment of the villages across the State, has an exclusive long-term association with Daniel Syiem with plans to take the label and the weaving community of Meghalaya into bigger markets in India and abroad.
