Mr John Kharshiing write to Prime minister on the IOA

Shillong, July 27: Sri. C Rajagopalachari, Governor General of India, accepted the Instrument of Accession  Annexed Agreement (IOA & AA) on 17th August 1948 with the 25 Khasi States jointly and individually as the Federation of Khasi States.

In the excitement of attainment of independence, the terms of the IOA & AA of 17 Aug 1948 was overlooked unlike J&K who had four representatives in Constituent Assembly, the Khasi States did not have any representative within Constituent Assembly, and relied on the Governor of Assam.

Since then Khasi Tribal Rulers, Chiefs, Clan Chiefs have been democratically calling for the attention of Central Authorities since 1950.

The Meghalaya BJP in their Policy paper published widely promised to address and honour all agreements entered into between the Khasi Chiefs and the GoI.

We hope that your Govt will address these very important issues and ensure that the National Commitments made 64 years ago by the Government of India to the Khasi people is concluded in a just and fair manner.(SP News)
