NEIGRIHMS Hospital back second prise for Cleanliness from Kaya Kalp Award

Shillong, February 19: Under the Centre’s Kaya Kalp programme for cleanliness of hospitals, the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Shillong  proved itself for its untiring efforts in keeping the hospital clean from all aspects by bagging the 2nd prize amongst the 16 Tertiary Care Central Government hospitals in India.

This award is a recognition of the overall effort of all the staff members of the hospital in promoting cleanliness, hygiene, infection control thereby enhancing patient satisfaction and experience.  The award comes with a trophy, a citation and a prize money of 3 crores in appreciation of the good work done. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi bagged the first prize, while the third prize went to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

Kaya Kalp Scheme has been launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India as a national initiative to improve the cleanliness and hygiene of the government hospitals, in a way to change the mindset of the general public and bring in a positive impact.
The scheme assesses the cleanliness of the Hospitals based on seven broad criteria and  59 sub-criteria with a total weightage of 650. Broadly the hospital is assessed on Hospital Upkeep, Sanitation and Hygiene, Hospital Support Services, Waste Management, Infection Control, Hygiene promotion, Management of the landscaped areas, gardens and feedback mechanism from public on cleanliness focussing on holistic health.

The Union Health Minister, Shri J. P. Nadda congratulated the entire team for being an example for others to follow. For NEIGRIHMS, the award was received by Prof. P. Bhattacharya, Director I/c NEIGRIHMS, David Umdor, Deputy Director, Prof. Anil Chandra Phukan, Medical Superintendent, Prof. M.K. Saikia, Nodal Officer for Kaya Kalp, Ms. Ridaker Khonglah, Nursing Superintendent and Mr. Debal Das, Sanitation Officer  at a function held at Swarnajayanti Auditorium, Lady Harding Medical College, New Delhi on February 15, 2017.

The Director I/c of the Institute Prof. P. Bhattacharya has congratulated and offered his gratitude to the patients, attendants and staff members for the feat achieved and had urged all those visiting the hospital for whatsoever reason to contribute in their own ways to keep the hospital clean for better patient care delivery.
