Shillong, October 20: The Superintending Technical Shillong of the Customs and central Excise categorically said that “only the state government can request for opening new Land Customs Station (LCS), the office will no longer entertain request that come from the groups or individuals” said Mr Choudhury.
The Superintending Technical told SP News Agency, that the department will only forward to the central government for opening up new LCS only thus request that come from the state government. It is not possible for the department to take individuals request.
At present there are request from individuals who approached the department for opening up new LCS,one under the Dawki LCS, in East Khasi Hills, but they have sent it back to the state government. When asked about the Kalibali under Shella LCS, the Superintending Technical clear said that there is no proposal that has come so far.
The LCS that still pending with the state government which the customs has seek clearance for opening by car pass is only Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills and Beltoli in East Khasi Hills, the customs are ready to give permission if the state government give the clearance and provide land for development of the LCS,
The LCS that was still under construction in Meghalaya is Dalu and Gashuwapara is near completion, in South West Garo Hills District. From the department want to see that all LCS should have proper parking space for the vehicles, proper office for the officers to look on shipments of goods and proper facilities.
When contacted the Director of Commerce and Industry Smti MB Roy said that there is no request that has come to the department for opening up new LCS. When asked about the Re-opening of the Kalibali the director said there is no proposal at such.
The Chhatak Limestone Importers and Suppliers Group from Bangladesh had request the Indian Exporters to take up with the Indian ministry of Finance department of Revenue New Delhi for opening up the existing Beltoli export point by car pass from pillar number 1243/3T-1243/2ST from Beltoli in India and Sunamgonj District in Bangladesh the letter was sign by the president Mr SA Selim Chowdhury.(SP News)
