Over 12481 teachers, working under SSA schools state, did not get their salaries for 4 months

Shillong, August 15: “SSA Teachers into depression and irked, continued depression of teachers’ wages may harm the quality of schooling in Meghalaya” Teachers Union concern of students studies, urged Government of Meghalaya to come up with it vision and magnanimity.

Over 12481 teachers, working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan schools under centrally sponsored schemes in the state, have not been paid salaries for 4 months, besides eight months Arrear Salary of Financial year 2016-17 yet to be paid by the State Government.

Aristotle C Rymbai one among the aggrieved SSA Teachers who is also the President of Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) Central Body says,  “everybody knows that nobody goes into teaching to get rich, but teachers don’t expect to be suffered and penalized for their chosen profession”. The non payment of our 4 months salary for a period from April to July 2018 and Arrears has put us (SSA Teachers) into depression and irked which the continued depression of teachers’ wages will harm the quality of schooling in Meghalaya.

Day by day the sufferings of these 12481 teachers is turning out to be a humanitarian crisis which needs immediate attention of the Government as it is never easy to survive in the contemporary times without bread and food, besides these the teachers also have to make arrangements of taxi and bus fare to reach their respective schools to perform their duty entrusted to them  especially those SSA teachers working in rural and remote areas in the State.”

We have been without salary for the last four months and no immediate solution seems visible till date and its not only an issue of 12481 SSA teachers but also a question of survival of thousands of people that comprise the families of these teachers. It’s the most delicate issue of education of scores of children and survival of elderly parents of these teacher”, Mr. Rymbai arrested.

We had served more than 15yrs to promote elementary education right from the grassroots level and its times for the State Government to come up with it vision and magnanimity in realizing that it isn’t just about SSA teachers, their salaries, streamlining or acceptance  but it is also a matter of our future generation which is suffering for no reason, Mr Rymbai conclude.
