Tomorrow PMUY will be launch in the state capital, for giving free LPG Connection to BPL

Shillong, June 18: The scheme Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will be launch in the state capital Shillong at the Meghalaya at State Convention Centre. The aims of the   scheme is for  providing free LPG connections to the women belonging to below Poverty line households, thereby aiming at empowering women and bringing about social transformation in their lives.

Availability of clean cooking fuel has been a major challenge for rural households in the country. Lack of access to clean fuel adversely affects the health of particularly women and children in the households using unclean fuel. The Government is committed to provide clean fuel to all poor households.

The LPG connections in this scheme shall be released in the name of women belonging to the BPL families. Initial support of Rs 1600 for providing a LPG connection would be provided by the central Government for each new LPG connection in the form of cash assistance.

Selection of beneficiaries will be from BPL families only, preference will be given to SC/ST and weaker sections of society. The beneficiary list will be as per the Socio Economic Cast Census, 2011 which was conducted in a transparent manner by the Ministry of Rural Development and state government.

Women of the BPL households, who are not having LPG connections, may apply for a new LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to the distributor. While submitting the forms, women have to submit, address proof, bank account and Aadhar card.

Oil marketing companies will be organizing “Melas”, “Camps”,at various locations for releasing of connections to BPL families.
