Shillong, May 19: The Khasi Students’ Union condemned the recent attack which has been made on Manbha Kupar Kshiar and Wanri Kordon Khyriem on the 17th May, 2017 at Umshyri near Military Hospital. They were robbed, brutally injured and attempt were also made to murdered them by a group of criminals who were around 15 in number as they were returning home from their work around 9.30 pm.
Luckily, they were cited by people who were passing by, after which they flee but one of them were caught on the spot, and was handed over to the police for necessary actions. But on a sad note, the police released him on the account that he is a juvenile without any prove of it or without any interrogation.
On this matter, the Khasi Students’ Union Laban Circle and Upper Shillong Circle met the Officer-in-Charge of Rilbong Beat House to inquire about the matter and also to complaint that this is not the first incident in that area as many such incidents of brutal attacks have been recorded from time to time. And the Union suspects that it is done by the same individuals and the juvenile who has been caught on that night may be a link to all these individuals who create such heinous offence.
The Union will not tolerate such heinous offence if such crimes keep repeating in future then it may lead to communal riots like in the year 1987. So the KSU Laban Circle has urged the Police Department to investigate into the matter and as soon as possible catch hold of such individuals and punish them in accordance to law to maintain peace and tranquility in the society.
