SBI employee abducted from Gasuapara in Garo Hills

Tura, Aug 5: A State Bank of India (SBI) employee posted at remote
Gasuapara branch in South Garo Hills was today abducted, while he was
on his way to Barengapara, near Dalu in West Garo Hills.
Subodh Kr Mishra was posted in the branch as an “Assistant”.
Mishra was on his bike, when six unidentified gunmen stopped him on a
highway leading towards Barengapara. The incident took place at around
4:30 pm.
Gasuapara is about 70 km from Tura in West Garo Hills.
Police has launched a massive operation in Gasuapara – Barengapara
area to rescue the SBI employee.
“We are making all efforts to rescue Mishra. We have inputs that he
has been taken towards a jungle”, said Lakador Syiem, superintendent
of police, South Garo Hills.
Police are suspecting it to be a handiwork of A’chik Songna
An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) outfit.
Assistant General Manager (Garo hills division), Nixon Joseph has
appealed the abductors to release Mishra immediately without any
condition.
Joseph said, “An incident of this nature will only dampen the spirit
of the SBI employee’s who are working to serve the people of Garo
hills”.
On June 16, Arvind Kumar, SBI branch manager of Ampati in South West
Garo Hills was abducted from Garobadha. He was rescued by police
unharmed in an operation on June 18.(SP News)
