Smuggle of cattle from India to Bangladesh is on the rise compare to previous year

Shillong, August 14: The BSF troops once again showing its alertness on Indo-Bangladesh border seized 51 Nos Cattle from the bordering areas of Gujangapara, Balughat and Kalaichar in South West Garo Hills Distt and Lynghat and Tuka in East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya while being smuggled into Bangladesh from India.

The special operation party of BSF laid a trap while some smugglers along with cattle were proceeding towards Bangladesh for smuggling through a thickly vegetated area. The BSF troops rushed towards the suspected area before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity; brave Jawans cordoned off the area and recovered a considerable numbers of cattle.

It is mentioned that in South West Garo Hills Distt the chunk of cattle is calves (local) arranged from the local area and cattle haats near border but in East Khasi Hill Distt of Meghalaya the smugglers are transporting cattle through vehicles from other neighbouring states.

In Garo Hills the cattle smugglers attempt their nefarious act of cattle smuggling through hume pipes or small naullah in Fence gaps.  Recently BGB has also seized huge quantity of cows fattening pills in the area opposite South West Garo Hills distt.

Cattle smuggling has shown a phenomenal increase this year as compared to the past few years. Due to the rise in the water level of the river since the onset of monsoon and inclement weather smugglers attempt to exploit adverse climatic conditions but the Border Security Force always foiled such smuggling activities.

The Border Security Force besides guarding the International Border always aspires to help the border population also. The BSF organized a Civic Action Programme and a Free Medical Camp on 12th Aug’ 216 in the Bordering area of Dabram, South Garo Hills Distt of Meghalaya.
