Shillong, August 08: Barely one and half year left for 2018 Assembly poll, the Election department is doing its best to mobilize people to enroll themselves in the electoral roll particularly to the youth who will enter the age of 18 to get themselves enroll in the electoral role.
Speaking to Sp News Agency, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Meghalaya state Mr F R Kharkongor said, “the focus is on to motivate youth to enroll their names in electoral process.”
Ruling out the presumption that Adhaar registration may be linked to electoral enrolment, Kharkongor said, “ So far there is no such instruction from the Election Commission of India and the enrollment of voters in the state is done in a normal process.”
The election department is organizing various campaigns in parts of the state and as the since the election commission of India (ECI) has implemented the National Electoral Registration Purification (NERP) from the sate, the election department following the instruction is doing its best to get correct entry of voters in the electoral roll and to do away with dual voters.
After the implementation of NERP, Kharkongor held meetings with the deputy commissioners of the entire 11 district through video conferencing. During the interaction with Deputy Commissioner, Mr Kharkongor stress on the need of doing away with dual voters if such enrollment is found.
In the video conferencing with all Deputy Commissioner he (Kharkongor) has instructed all DC who are bordering with Assam to coordinate with their counter part to cross check the electoral role to avoid dual entry of voters in the electoral roll.
The state election department is doing its best to do away with the dual voters’ before the upcoming general election to the state legislative assembly.
Moreover there are several cases of mistaken identity in terms of entering the names into electoral roll and the process is through to correct them.
