Sport Minister laid the foundation for construction of Salmanpara School building

Sangma has emphasized the need for teachers to rededicate themselves in terms of providing quality education in the rural areas to bring the students in the rural areas at par with their urban counterparts.

He was addressing the gathering as the chief guest after laying the foundation stone for construction of school building for Salmanpara Secondary School at Salmanpara, under Zikzak C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills in the presence of the Government Chief Whip and local MLA, W.D.Sangma on Monday. The construction of the school building is being funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the project called “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya”, which is the first of its kind in the country.

Both Zenith Sangma and W.D. Sangma are former students of Salmanpara school, which was established in the early 70s and upgraded to a high school in 1983.

In his address, Mr. Sangma spoke of the special focus being given by the State Government to the education sector to bridge the imbalances and disparities in education in the urban and rural areas and said that under the ADB-funded project, sanction has been given to 117 schools across the State for construction and upgradation of school infrastructure, Salmanpara school being one of them, adding that Rs. 1.15 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose.

He also highlighted on several other developmental initiatives of the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, due to which, he said people of Salmanpara, which once was one of the most backward and inaccessible areas in the district, can now themselves witness the visible signs of change and development taking place in the recent times. He called upon the students to concentrate on their studies and strive for excellence so that they become worthy citizens and leaders in future and also reminded the parents of their responsibilities towards their children.

Government Chief Whip and local MLA, W.D. Sangma in his address, expressed his joy on the occasion saying that people of Salmanpara has achieved yet another milestone in the development process and called on the people to come together to ensure speedy completion of the project and work with a sense of ownership to take the school to greater heights for the benefit of the future generations.

GHADC member of Dengnakpara, Sadhiyarani Sangma, Deputy Commissioner C.V.D. Diengdoh, DSEO, Ampati, C.J. Sangma, Headmaster, Salmanpara Secondary School, Ringnan A. Sangma and SMC President, Samendro A. Sangma were among others who also spoke on the occasion.
