Ampati, February 23: With a view to create a platform for innovators to showcase their ingenious problem solving ideas the first ever District Level Innovators Meet was today held at Ampati in South West Garo Hills. The meet was sponsored by National Innovation Foundation, India and State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, Meghalaya, Shillong in collaboration with the District Planning Office, Ampati.
The main objective of the meet was to create a platform to encourage innovators and tap their potential in creating resourceful yet problem solving ideas, devices etc. during the meet close to hundred participants from across the district and all walks of life showcased their ingenious devices created from indigenous raw materials to secure livelihood opportunities and also solve day to day problems.
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril V D Diengdoh while addressing the gathering during the meet directed the Basin Development Unit (BDU) Entrepreneur Resource Persons (ERPs) to interact with grass root level innovators to tap the potential. Assuring the gathering that similar platforms would be created in the future to encourage ingenious ideas and inventions the Deputy Commissioner said that a convergence of all line departments would ensure that future meets would be taken to greater heights.
The Deputy Commissioner later handed over certificates and cash to the four best innovators of the meet and also gave certificates of participation to participants. The four best innovators selected from the meet will be representing the district at the State Level meet that will be held at Shillong on 27th February 2017.
Among others who attended the district level innovators meet were ADC & District Planning Officer H D B Sangma, Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Singh, EAC W R G Momin, District Horticulture Officer, B R Marak, PWD E.E. J Sangma and ARO Eugene Kyndiah.
